Organizers cooked up a delicious idea to celebrate this weekend’s 30th Apple Dumpling Festival along Main Street in Atwood.

The first 30 attendees with IDs to show they were born in 1994 — Year 1 of the popular festival — will receive a homemade apple dumpling. The scrumptious giveaways start around noon Friday at the Atwood Chamber of Commerce booth.

The pastries are baked by the talented members of the women’s auxiliary from James Reeder Post 770 Atwood American Legion. It takes three locations to produce some 1,800 apple dumplings that will be devoured Friday and Saturday.

The dumplings are topped with a warm caramel sauce. Ice cream — a perfect complement — will be served at nearby United Church of Atwood.

Proceeds help fund the auxiliary’s many community causes, including scholarship awarded to local high school students.
