Can't Wait For Saturday | What's in a name? Plenty for Southern Cal quarterbacks

Greetings from "Can't Wait For Saturday," your morning morsel of college football, courtesy of longtime Illini beat writer, AP Top 25 voter and Heisman state rep Bob Asmussen. He'll give you his views each day on the game he loves

Here is my advice to Southern California opponents this season: Pay special attention to the new guy playing quarterback.

You might think the teams on the Trojans schedule got a break when Caleb Williams moved on to the NFL (quick prediction, he will have a monster season for the Bears). Not so fast.

Miller Moss is the new guy lined up behind center, which the Trojans confirmed this week. What's the big deal? Well, he had a stellar performance in the Holiday Bow subbing for Williams, leading Southern Cal to a win against Louisville.

Even more of a reason for foes to say "Uh-oh," Moss is another quarterback with two last names. How has that worked out in the past for the Trojans? Might want to ask Carson Palmer. All he did was win the Heisman Trophy in 2002 by throwing for almost 4,000 yards with 33 TDs.

Moss won't likely hit Palmer level production this season, but with Lincoln Riley as his coach, it won't be at all surprising if he makes a Heisman run before his college career ends. The school knows what it takes. So does Riley.

LSU, which opens against the Trojans in Las Vegas, has been warned.
