Congratulations to Smitty’s Car Wash, this month’s recipient of Champaign American Legion Post 24’s award for proper display of the American flag.

It’s the first time a car wash has been cited in the 19 years of the award.

Old Glory is hard to miss — a stone’s throw from the University of Illinois on South Neil Street, where the combination of classes resuming and soaring temperatures has led to a boon in August business.

Smith’s opened its Champaign location in March and its Danville shop in June.

September’s winner will be announced during Ann Rhoton’s “Standard Time” program on WDWS 1400-AM/93.9-FM. Tune in at 7:15 a.m. Sunday.
