Friday's slate of high school football season openers was dampened by evening storms throughout the area.

Some matchups — including Monticello's home game against St. Joseph-Ogden — were pushed to Saturday. Others proceeded as scheduled after varying delays.

The host Knights (1-0) overcame a 10-8 halftime lead held by the Bombers (0-1) to extend their regular-season winning streak to 18 games in a Lincoln Prairie Conference contest. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 21, Clifton Central 8. A Vermilion Valley Conference game tilted in favor of the Blue Devils (1-0), who scored the final 21 points of the contest on the strength of rushing touchdowns from Eli McConkey and Evan Parish, with quarterback Anderson Thomas completing nine of his 16 passing attempts for 100 yards and a touchdown to Caden Keleminic.

Eisenmenger tossed two scores to Brady Parr and one to Tre Hoggard, while Hawks quarterback Dalton Steidinger completed nine of 18 attempts for 164 yards and touchdowns to Caiden Schulz and Wyatt Edelman.

Warrensburg-Latham 20, Tuscola 8. The host Warriors (0-1) claimed an early edge over the Cardinals by scoring on a safety with 8:18 left in the first quarter, but couldn't hold on as Warrensburg-Latham scored 20 unanswered points to clinch a HOCIC victory.
