West Kirby to close for asphalt work near bridge

CHAMPAIGN — County Road 1500 North/West Kirby Avenue will be closed between 600 East/Barker Road and 700 East/Rising Road on Thursday and Friday.

According to Champaign Township Highway Commissioner Keith Padgett, the closure is so that workers can lay down asphalt on the east and west side of the bridge that was replaced last year. He added that they will be doing similar work near the Windsor Road bridge at a later date.

No marked detour will be signed, Champaign County officials said.

Those who own property within the construction zone will have access to their land but are advised to drive with "extreme caution" while they are near the work.
