This story has been updated with new information.

Augusta County Public Schools, Staunton City Schools and Waynesboro Public Schools will all be closed Monday, Sept. 30.

"Due to local road closures and the potential for more flooding throughout the day tomorrow, schools will be closed for all students and staff on Monday, September 30," read an email from Staunton Superintendent Garett Smith just before 7 p.m. Sunday.

Augusta County Superintendent Eric Bond made a call to families around 6:30 p.m. Sunday notifying them of the decision.

Waynesboro didn't announce that schools were closed until after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, posting on social media and the school division website.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro through Monday morning. Slow moving showers and possible thunderstorms are expected throughout the evening Sunday.

The area, especially Eastern Augusta County, experienced a lot of rain Friday with multiple roads closed Friday and even a recommended evacuation for Sherando, Creekside, and Back Creek Friday night.

The area got a break Saturday, with the rain stopping and even some sunshine, but rain returned to the area Sunday.

Of course, schools take off every chance they get. Too hot, too cold, a snowflake fell, it rained a lot two days ago. All their effort goes into, “We want raises.”
