BEREA – The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission will remove its mainline bridge over the North Coast Inland Trail at milepost 83.3 in Sandusky County.

As a result of the bridge construction project, about a one-quarter-mile stretch of the trail that runs under the Ohio Turnpike beginning at Waggoner Road in Washington Township will close Monday for relocation. The trail is used exclusively for walking and biking.

A new section of the trail will be rebuilt along Waggoner Road adjacent to the Ohio Turnpike (about 600 feet in length in the northwest direction) and will reconnect back to the trail (about 800 feet in length in the westward direction). It is expected to be completed by mid-November.

The detour for the trail begins Monday. Pedestrians and bike riders can follow the posted detour signs, which include Behring Road to Schultz-Portage Road to the trail and in reverse direction.

The Ohio Turnpike bridge at milepost 83.3 will be removed, filled with dirt, and replaced with pavement. In addition, the turnpike commission has announced plans to remove and redeck the mainline bridge that runs above Waggoner Road.

They need to relocate it in Bellevue as it's currently alongside U. S. Route 20 with no guard rails or safety devices of any type . And it a mile away from the rail bed where it's supposed to be .
