All students attending Fremont City Schools for the 2024-25 school year will be eligible for free breakfast and lunches , according to Superintendent Denice Hirt.

"Our elementary students have received meals under the Community Eligibility Provision for 10 plus years," the new school district superintendent said.

It is the first time she is aware that both the middle school and high school also have qualified for the CEP and the older students, too, now will receive both breakfast and lunches at no cost to them or parents.

Hirt said the big change came under the former CEP standards.

    Someone to Know:

Sharie Chagnon-Murray on the Apple Wallet and voting

The new opportunity to have your driver’s license uploaded to your Apple Wallet, and used as ID, has been causing confusion because it can’t be used for everything.

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles has this notice on its website: “ The Ohio Mobile ID is a convenient and secure companion to the physical plastic card, but does not replace your physical card.”

While there are several uses for which it is acceptable identification, I talked with Sandusky County Board of Elections Director Sharie Chagnon-Murray about how it's excluded for voting.

Q: How does the Ohio Mobile ID relate to voting?

A: It will not be permitted.

Is Sandusky County going to be getting some of the tap terminal digital readers?

At this point, and from what we’ve seen with directives, I don’t think it’s anything we need to worry about at this point. If we’re directed to get them at some point down the road, by the secretary of state, we definitely would, if they become an acceptable form of identification for voting purposes.

If someone shows up on election day with that as their ID, what will you do?

If they don’t have a physical form of ID on them, they will need to (vote) provisional, or bring us back an identification and then vote regularly.
