Rough water cut numbers for the 2024 Lake Erie Trump Flotilla

The 2024 Trump Flotilla was held on Lake Erie , starting in Port Clinton, on Saturday.

High winds and choppy water led to a smaller turnout at this years's event. There were an estimated 30 boats this year. The same event in 2020 had estimates of 400 to 1,000 boats that joined that year's boat parade supporting the Trump campaign.

Captain Pete Atherton drove the lead boat. Also riding in the boat were Sheila Atherton, Jill Stinebaugh, Chairman, Ottawa County Republican Party, State Representative DJ Swearingen, 89th Ohio House District, State Representative Josh Williams, 41st House District(running for the 44th Ohio House District, and Sherri Trusty with the Beacon.

The rough water didn't keep people from watching from the shore. Estimates of several hundred people sat on land as the 2024 Trump Flotilla passed by.

Something to do: Sandusky County Fair

The Sandusky County Fair starts on Monday, going through next Sunday, Aug. 25, but there will be quite a few things happening this weekend.

Anticipation is high for good weather and lots of competitions. I'd say that many will be working through this weekend to make it happen, but the fairgrounds have been abuzz with activity all week.

The first judging starts on Saturday , with the home brews and wines, with many other items being dropped off. On Sunday there will be a wide variety of items being judged and animals weighed-in.

The days will be packed , but here is just a snippet of what will be taking place on Monday.

8 a.m. Grand opening at the Log Cabin

1 p.m. General livestock contest at the Anderson Arena

5 p.m. Royalty parade

5:30 p.m. King and Queen contest

7:30 p.m. Speedway fair races
