Clyde coaches did not share the possibility with players before the game.

A few Fliers were aware, but they didn't let younger teammates know because they knew that was how coaches would want it. You didn’t have to remind the seniors that Friday’s 34-0 victory over Bellevue was the fourth-consecutive win for Clyde in the series.

The Fliers had never beaten Bellevue four straight games.

“Your rival, the biggest game on the schedule every year,” Clyde coach Ryan Carter said. “Ed (Nasonti) runs a great program. Four in a row says great things about the (Fliers) program. It’s huge.”

Mason Flewelling rushed for two touchdowns Friday. He missed half of last season with an injury.

“He brings an edge,” Fliers safety Zander Burroughs said.

Kam Shortridge caught a 43-yard scoring pass from Jonathan Lantz in the first quarter. Lantz collected the snap after it bounced off his chest and appeared to throw it in the same motion.

Lantz and Brennan Wilson shared time at quarterback.

Adam Young scored from 2 yards out in the first quarter.

“Both sides of the ball, our kids had a focused, violent approach,” Carter said. “We wanted the senior class to take ownership on the road. Our kids were hungry. I’m super proud of the program.

“For the first time in the rivalry history, we won four in a row.”

Even Carter was a bit animated as he celebrated with his team after the game.

“A couple players knew,” Burroughs said of the possibility of winning four in a row. “I was one of them. The coaches didn’t tell us. A couple of us talked about it during the week. It means a lot to us.”
