Police said 14 gunshots were fired in the second of two incidents Thursday at the Delaware Acres apartment complex.

No one is reported to have been injured in the shooting.

“At this point, we are not aware of anyone getting shot, related to the series of disturbances that law enforcement responded to,” Fremont Police Chief Derek Wensinger said. “Essentially, there was a fight there earlier in the day. There were arrests, they went to jail, they bonded out, and there was a shooting.”

He said there is an ongoing investigation into both incidents, possibly involving some of the same individuals.

“Right now, this report has two charges, which are both misdemeanor charges,” Wensinger said. “The shooting is a felony discharge into a habitation. It’s a high felony. The other charge is also a felony. Delaware Acres is in a school zone, since the school is pretty close to there, and that’s a Felony 2 (level offense).”

Atkinson Elementary is adjacent to the Delaware Acres complex. He pointed out that the shooting did not take place on school grounds or during school hours.

The shooting scene remains under investigation. It is still unclear exactly what took place, but Wensinger said it was not just a simple discharge of weapons.

“It depends on how you characterize it, because there were apartments that were shot, bullets went inside apartments that we recovered, there were vehicles that were shot; I mean, this was a shooting, but nobody was shot that we know of,” Wensinger said.

The earlier incident at Delaware Acres was called in to the Fremont Police Department at 3:17 p.m. Thursday.

Police responded to a disturbance at 707 S. Buchanan St. Multiple people stated that an Fremont man, 22, had a firearm.

According to the police report, the individual said “someone had spit into his mother’s car, while on the road, and that his (two sisters and mother) were beating up another woman in the parking lot of Delaware Acres.”

The man confronted the individual, who “came out with a baseball bat.” He then ran away, according to the report.

The police report further states that while the first man was being interviewed by police, two other men drove up and threated to “beat him up.” An argument ensued.

The first individual was arrested, along with one of the two other individuals. The other man, 23, was from Clyde. Both were booked and posted bonds of $250.

There were eight other individuals listed on the police report as being involved but not arrested or charged.

When you find out who did the shooting let them bond out again and tell them to try harder next time.
