Talk About Clyde: Another pillar added to children's memorial

September was childhood cancer awareness month. Clyde has a childrens' memorial dedicated to local children who lost their lives to cancer.

The memorial is located along the Northcoast Inland Bike Trail between Maple Street and Vine Street, just beyond the gazebo, near the Clyde Moose Lodge. It originally contained seven pillars surrounding a center stone bearing the words, "Remember Our Children." Each pillar bears the name of an area child or young adult who had died from cancer. The eighth pillar was added in 2023 in memory of 13-year-old Isaac Advey, the son of Delilah and Larry Advey, Clyde, who died Dec. 27, 2021, after a long fight against cancer.

"He was such a sweet kid who cared about everyone. He was fun and funny and loved to play video games," said his mom. "We have many fond memories of him." His favorite animal was the owl, which is engraved on his pillar. His second favorite was the penguin. Both are engraved on his headstone where he is buried.

Isaac loved Christmas, she said, noting that for his last Halloween with family he dressed as Cousin Eddie from the movie "Christmas Vacation," mimicking every detail down to a cigar in his mouth.

The memorial was funded by donations from the community and dedicated in October 2017. Other pillars are in memory of Kole Keller, 2001-2007; Alexa Brown, 1998-2009; Jacob "Bubba" Andrews, 1990-2012; Haden Kistler, 1998-2011; Shilah Donnersbach, 1997-2007; Taylor Norman, 1995-2013; and Amanda Silva Hanover, 1982-2012.
