    Hayes museums to screen 'Camp Delaware', story of Civil War's 5th Regiment Colored Troops

    A film featuring the story of the 5th Regiment, U.S. Colored Cavalry in the Civil War, will be screened Oct. 27 in Fremont at the Hayes Presidential Library and Museums.

    “Camp Delaware” chronicles the recruitment, training, battles, bravery and service of the regiment. The film is a recording of a stage production .

    Film features speeches, letters from the times

    It incorporates speeches of political figures of the day, letters from the soldiers and sounds of popular music of the era will bring the unit’s story to life.

    “Camp Delaware” will be shown at 3 p.m. and last until 5 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session with the filmmakers until 5:30 p.m.

    Tickets are $15 online and also will be sold at the front desk the day of the event, pending availability.

    Proceeds benefit the Community Arts Network Performing Arts Scholarship . The scholarship is for Ohio graduating high school seniors who will attend an Ohio college or university to pursue a degree in the performing arts. Scholarship applications will open in October.
