A Powerball player missed the jackpot — but still has a big prize in store for them in North Carolina.

The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Aug. 19 drawing, making it worth $50,000, results show.

The winning numbers: white balls 1-2-15-23-28, with red Powerball 10.

So, where was the lucky ticket sold? It came from a Food Lion grocery store in Winterville , a roughly 85-mile drive southeast from Raleigh, an N.C. lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.

The player’s ticket matched four of the white balls and the red ball to score the windfall. But the ticket was one number away from winning the larger jackpot prize, according to the Powerball website.

Instead, a player in California hit the jackpot , which stood at an estimated $44 million, McClatchy News reported.

As of early Aug. 20, no one had come forward to claim the $50,000 North Carolina prize. Winners in the state have about six months to cash in on prizes in drawing games, rules show.

    What to know about Powerball

To score the jackpot in the Powerball , a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online .

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
