A man wanted in an April shooting turned himself in to Durham police Saturday, but investigators still don’t know if the teen who was killed was the intended target.

Mychal Quinton Mercer, 33, is accused of killing 19-year-old Ashir Harrington, who was found fatally shot by police officers responding to a gunshots call in a parking lot near West Morgan and Watts streets around 2 a.m. April 28.

Emergency Medical Services workers took Harrington to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Harrington is survived by his parents, his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandmother, according to an online obituary.

In addition to murder, Mercer has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied property, and injury to personal property in connection with the April incident.

Shots fired at taco truck, Jaguar and Charger

However, police said in an email Wednesday that Harrington was not in any of the vehicles and they do not know if he was the intended target.

Mercer also was served with an outstanding warrant for an embezzlement charge. He is being held without bail in the Durham County jail.
