A new all-you-can-eat restaurant is opening soon at the old Tuesday Morning spot in Raleigh

Renovations are underway at an old Tuesday Morning in Raleigh to transform the retail store into a restaurant.
Umiya Sushi & Hotpot is filling the 12,500-square-foot space on Six Forks Road at Wake Forest Road. Tuesday Morning closed hundreds of stores nationwide, including its Triangle locations, in 2023 as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection plan, The News & Observer previously reported .
The team behind the all-you-can-eat sushi and hotpot restaurant is shooting for a late October or early November opening , restaurant partner Billy Zheng told The N&O.
Zheng said the Raleigh concept isn’t the same as Ichiban Hibachi Supreme Buffet , a Durham restaurant his team manages, but they want to “translate that experience” to the new restaurant.
They picked the Tuesday Morning location because it’s close to North Hills and draws in traffic. The restaurant is across the street from Costco and sits at a busy intersection, near many other restaurants and shops, including Wegmans and Trader Joe’s.
“We think that it’ll pull a decent amount of people to the area,” Zheng said.
Raleigh’s Umiya is associated with the restaurants of the same name in Texas. However, the Texas locations tend to be more focused on sushi, Zheng said, whereas the Triangle restaurant will also have hot pot and in the future, maybe Korean barbecue .
“We don’t have a limit on the sashimi that we’re able to serve to the customers, compared to a lot of the other all-you-can-eat around the Triangle, where there’s a limit on how much they can get every time they come in,” Zheng said.
Umiya will seat about 300 diners and include a bar.
More retail news for Midtown area
A boutique called Park’s Jewels recently opened at Midtown East , the shopping center at the corner of Wake Forest and Six Forks that houses Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, Torchy’s Tacos and other shops and restaurants. The store at 1111 Mercantile Drive is the second for the brand, which was founded in Greenville, North Carolina. Park’s Jewels sells clothing, jewelry, bags, shoes and accessories.
Wegmans launched a pharmacy at the Wake Towne Drive location in August, allowing customers to fill prescriptions and receive immunizations. The grocer does not have plans to open pharmacies at its other North Carolina stores.
BB’s Crispy Chicken , founded by a partnership of James Beard Award-winning chef Ashley Christensen and MDO Holdings, closed its Raleigh location in June, The N&O previously reported . The restaurant known for chicken sandwiches also shut down the Durham location, but the Cary restaurant remains open. Christensen ended her involvement with the brand last year.
