After a season-opening loss, Jordan High School appears to have righted the ship as it inches closer to conference play.

The Falcons scored three times in the opening quarter and four more times in the second to run away from Smithfield-Selma, securing a 62-0 win over the Spartans.

Jordan quarterback Landon Melton accounted for five touchdowns — four through the air and another with his feet — to lead the Falcons’ onslaught. Two of Melton’s passing touchdowns came on first-half strikes to Michael Young. Amareon Blue and Omaris McMiller Jr. also caught touchdowns for Jordan (3-1).

Blue also added a rushing touchdown to his total, Damien Hayes had a third-quarter rushing score, and Jaxyn Branion did the same in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

Jordan has outscored its opponents 143-25 during its three-game win streak, including 106-0 over its past two games.

Smithfield-Selma (0-3) will open conference play next week at South Johnston. Its next home game is set for Oct. 4 against Fike.

Jordan has one more non-conference game too, and will do so at home after a bye next week, hosting Millbrook of Raleigh on Sept. 27.
