A Powerball player just missed a $209 million prize — but is still set to get richer in North Carolina.

The player tried their luck on a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Sept. 23 drawing, making it worth $50,000, results show.

The winning numbers: white balls 15-21-25-37-45, with red Powerball 19.

So, where did the winner buy the ticket? It was sold online in Pisgah Forest, a roughly 30-mile drive southwest from the popular mountain town of Asheville, the N.C. Education Lottery told McClatchy News via email.

The Powerball player scored the windfall after their ticket matched four white balls and the red ball. The ticket was one number from hitting the jackpot , an estimated $209 million the night of the drawing, according to the game’s website.

In North Carolina, Powerball winners have about six months to claim their prizes . Lottery officials shared details about the $50,000 win early Sept. 24, before the lucky ticket holder would have had a chance to cash in, according to game rules.

    What to know about Powerball

To score the jackpot in the Powerball , a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online .

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
