Willow Springs Elementary has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, one of only six in North Carolina to receive the honor.

U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona announced the list of 356 schools nationwide given blue ribbon status for overall academic performance or closing achievement gaps.

“We are deeply honored,” said Principal Camille Miller. “This recognition is a true reflection of the unwavering dedication of our truly remarkable staff, whose passion for student success and commitment to fostering an engaging, supportive environment inspire me daily. It also speaks to the trust and support we receive from our incredible community, enabling us to cultivate a strong vibrant culture.”

The school will celebrate Friday with a staff breakfast and a performance from Willow Spring High School’s band and cheerleaders. A blue ribbon flag will grace the school’s entry.

Other recipients from North Carolina in 2024 are: Immaculata Catholic School in Durham; Hope Middle School in Greenville; Martin L. Nesbitt Discovery Academy in Asheville; McDowell Early College in Marion; and Rock Ridge Elementary in Wilson.

Weatherstone Elementary in Cary received the award in 2022.
