This family-owned furniture store in the Triangle is closing after more than 60 years

A family-owned furniture store that has been in business for more than six decades is closing soon.

The owner of Garner Wayside Furniture plans to retire, so the store is beginning a liquidation sale, the store announced in a press release. (The owner declined to comment on this story.)

Founded in 1963, the store is located in a 25,000-square-foot building at 1460 Highway 70 in Garner . It carries a range of furniture and decor from brands including American Drew, Best, Bassett, Kincaid, Beautyrest, Leather Italia and more.

A liquidation sale begins 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 . Here are a few items on sale:

• Leather living room sets
• Recliners
• Bedroom sets
• Dinettes
• Wall art
• Lamps
• Mattresses

An ending date for the sale has not yet been announced.

Furniture company announces closure of all locations, including in NC

Badcock Home Furniture &more , a furniture company with hundreds of locations across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi, announced earlier this year that all stores would close.

“We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for being a valued customer of Badcock Home Furniture &more. Regrettably, we are going out of business, and all stores will be closing over the coming months,” the company wrote in a social media post on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Badcock has a few Triangle locations, in Raleigh, Durham and near Highway 42 and Interstate 40 in Johnston County.

The company was purchased in 2023 by Conn’s HomePlus , which filed for bankruptcy in July 2024, CNN reported .

Conn’s shared on its website that it is closing stores in Raleigh, Garner and elsewhere in North Carolina.

Both Conn’s and Badcock are holding going-out-of-business sales.
