N.C. State football plays under the lights on Saturday in its third ACC contest, and the Pack hopes to avoid its worst start in conference play since 2014.

The Wolfpack (3-3, 0-2 ACC) welcomes Syracuse to Raleigh on Saturday for the prime-time matchup. The Orange (4-1, 1-1 ACC) is a formidable opponent, ranking among the best teams in the nation for offensive output. The Syracuse defense isn’t quite to the level of its scoring threats, but N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren acknowledges its versatility.

Syracuse isn’t afraid to go with a three- or four-man front and sometimes use both in the same game. The program effectively merges two systems. Fadil Diggs is a leader on the defensive front and can create havoc.

Of course, the Orange also brings quarterback Kyle McCord, wide receiver Trebor Pena and running back LeQuint Allen. All three provide consistency on the high-scoring offense.

Doeren called the upcoming game a “great challenge, an opportunity” for the Wolfpack to improve and hopefully come away with the win.

“I know all of us wanted better than 3-3. Trust me, no one’s more disappointed than me and our players, but I also know N.C. State’s about fighting and not giving up, and that’s where we’re at,” Doeren said on Monday. “We’ve been in worse situations, rallied and had really good finishes. That’s what we’re going to try to do. We got six games, six opportunities. We’ll take them all one at a time. We’ll work our butts off. (There’s) a lot to play for, a lot to fight for. I know it’s frustrating. I feel your pain, but I know one thing about this school, we don’t quit, we dig in and fight and we stick together.”
