Labor Day weekend got off to a rough start Friday when passenger on a boat was injured during bad weather on the Caloosahatchee River.

The individual was taken to an area hospital, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission.

According to a preliminary investigation, two boats were traveling in opposite directions when one of the boats, a 24-foot center console with two people on board, crossed the wake of the other vessel.

The size of the other vessel was not available. The FWC did not say what time the incident occurred.

The incident happened near the Midpoint Bridge spanning the river that connects Fort Myers to Cape Coral.

The FWC, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Fort Myers Fire Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard all responded.

“This is an active incident and the FWC will be the lead agency for the ongoing investigation,” FWC spokesman Bradley Johnson said.
