When is iOS 18 available?

iPhone users can download the update starting at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 16, according to Apple .

What features are included in iOS 18?

Some of the features that iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence brings, according to Apple and USA TODAY , are:

• More customizable home screens
• Genmojis, artificial intelligence-generated emojis that users can create with a description
• Schedule a message
• Redesigned photos app , including allowing users to search through photos by the month or year taken
• Image Playground, which allows users to create images or get suggested concepts related to their conversations in messages
• Rewrite, proofread and summarize text in mail, notes, pages and third-party apps
• Transcription services in the notes and phone app

iOS 18 will debut as a free download for iPhone Xs and later, Apple noting the update will be compatible with these specific models:

Here's how to update to iOS 18 when it launches

Before doing any sort of update to your iPhone, make sure to back up your phone. This allows you to keep your data safe by making a copy and saving the information from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Once you have backed up your phone, Apple advises you to plug your phone into power and connect to the Wi-Fi. Then you can follow these steps:

• Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
• If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
• Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now

What is iOS 17.7? Apple releases another iOS update

At the same time Apple released iOS 18, a new version of iOS 17 was released too — iOS 17.7

According to Forbes , this iOS update doesn't have any new features and is focused on bug fixes. Apple’s notes read: “This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users.” Some outlets say this update targets those who are not ready for iOS 18 just yet.

All iPhones from the iPhone Xs onwards can run iOS 17.

When does Apple Intelligence come out?

iPhone users get iOS 18 now, but Apple Intelligence will not be a part of this update. Users will get to experience more with Apple Intelligence when iOS 18.1 rolls out next month, Apple said in a news release about upcoming AI features .

"Apple will lean into its hardware, software and platform integration to launch a cohesive AI pivot, and we expect the advertising and marketing of these products to focus heavily on safe AI use cases within Apple’s ecosystem," said Emarketer analyst Gadjo Sevilla .

When does the iPhone 16 release?

Last week, Apple officials announced the release of four different style iPhones — iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Officials shared that the iPhone 16 range will be available for preorder this Friday and will hit store shelves officially on Friday, Sept. 20.

How much is the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro?

For the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, officials shared they both have a new A18 chip with 8GB of RAM to enable support of Apple Intelligence, the company's artificial intelligence software. The company said the chip can challenge some high-end desktop computers.

The iPhone 16 starts at $799 for the 128 GB option and the 16 Plus starts at $899 for the 128 GB option. They also shared that you can receive up to $800 off if you bring in iPhone 12s or newer to trade in.

As for the Pro and Pro Max, the models will have slightly larger screens, as the iPhone 16 Pro’s screen will measure 6.3 inches and the Pro Max model will have a 6.9-inch screen.

The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 for the 128GB option and $1199 for iPhone 16 Pro Max for the 256GB option.
