A fatal crash on Tuesday morning called for the response of several law enforcement agencies and a detour.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office announced shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday they were investigating a fatal crash in Lehigh Acres along with the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Troopers said an SUV, driven by a 34-year-old Lehigh Acres woman, was traveling north on Joel Boulevard, on the outside lane, north of East 16th Street.

At the same time, authorities said, a pedestrian identified as a 39-year-old St. James City woman, was walking near the northbound Joel Boulevard outside lane edge line.

Troopers said the front of the SUV struck the woman who was on foot and she died at the scene.
