A woman is dead and the accused driver on the run after authorities say a red pickup struck her and fled the scene.

Fort Myers police's traffic unit seeks public assistance in locating the pictured vehicle. Police said the pickup was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the crash happened in the area of Colonial Boulevard and Fowler Street, near the Wawa gas station.

Authorities said they are searching for a four-door red Toyota Tacoma that will have damage to the front passenger headlight and front passenger bumper.

Police say anyone with information may contact them at 239-432-7700, submit a tip on their #AtlasOne app or contact SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).

At least 94 people have been killed in Lee County crashes this year.

I got in a hit and run Monday at Colonial and Metro. A Big red Jeep slammed into me, went through the ditch and left..me like an like a dumb ass followed him (left the scene-I was pissed) I thought he would pull over and he did at the Marathon where I was going to get gas. Boy was I wrong, he didn’t stop, he circled and went right back out on Colonial. This is when I stopped and saw the damage (literally cried) smashed the whole back of my Nissan (trunk won’t close..it wasn’t a tap. Couldn’t file a police report (because I left the scene). Did report it to insurance though. Scared me to death , because it was raining. Anybody have any idea what I can do next, I would appreciate it.
