A 30-year-old man who died in a shooting associated with a house party just outside Sumner has been identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Javaun Cordova died from multiple gunshot wounds near the 7400 block of Riverside Drive East on Sept. 14. His manner of death was listed as a homicide, according to a news release from the medical examiner’s office.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to calls of a shooting just before 2 a.m. with help from Bonney Lake and Puyallup police departments, The News Tribune reported . Detectives investigated the scene and believe the shooting was connected to a fight that broke out at a house party thrown by a girl while her parents, the homeowners, were out of town. Besides Cordova, whom authorities found severely injured in the house’s driveway, two 16-year-old boys were shot. They were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two other 16-year-old boys, who weren’t shot, were discovered inside a Honda fleeing the scene, The News Tribune reported. The Honda allegedly rammed a Bonney Lake police cruiser before authorities pushed the Honda into a parked car and stopped it from leaving. Authorities discovered a handgun on the floor of the Honda.

The News Tribune reported that the two teens were booked into Remann Hall juvenile detention center, both suspected of unlawfully possessing a firearm. One of the teens, who was driving the Honda, was also booked on suspicion of second-degree assault for allegedly ramming the cruiser.

The News Tribune has reached out to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department for any updates on the investigation and is waiting for a response.
