Hidden in a parking lot adjacent to a vintage burger bus off Pacific Avenue is Pierce County’s newest thrift store. Only open select hours on Fridays, Parkland’s Avenue Thrift was full of everything from decor, games, shoes, camping gear, lamps, DVDs and toys when The News Tribune paid a visit.

In a one-story building at 13502 Pacific Ave. under a yellow “Lucky Sales and Service” sign, a group of retirees and sisters sell gently used items they’d prefer not to go to Goodwill or a landfill. If you want to visit, plan accordingly: The store is only open 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays.

Manager Mary Shaw said all sales go to support the Marymount Event Center, keeping those dollars in the community. Depending on how business goes, Shaw said they may adjust their hours in the future.

On Friday, Avenue Thrift was selling a variety of used items, including Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decor, figurines, fake plants, lawn darts, camping chairs, tents, coolers, sports equipment, Nerf guns, lamps and filing cabinets.

Shaw said they accept donations, although not large furniture or clothing. She usually prices items to half the eBay asking price.

Cash and credit cards are accepted, and they sell new items every week, Shaw said.
