Taqueria chain known for breakfast burritos and ‘The Taco Box’ to open Tacoma restaurant

Aceituno’s, a local taqueria chain known for “the taco box” and a recurring Tuesday bargain, will open its first location within Tacoma city limits this fall, the owner confirmed in September.

The company has taken over an old Burger King at 5916 N. 26th St., just west of the intersection with North Pearl Street. A permit for the sign was issued by the City of Tacoma in late August.

Sabino “Roger” Aceituno, who opened his first restaurant with his wife Mirna in 2013 in Port Orchard, hopes the West End Mexican restaurant will open in October or November, he said by email.

Aceituno’s operates a dozen restaurants in four Western Washington counties, including four in Pierce (Lakewood, Orting, Puyallup and Spanaway). The Covington outpost closed earlier this year. In 2021, it expanded south to Centralia , reported The Daily Chronicle.

The popular “taco box” packs 20 street-style tacos (or crispy, with shredded lettuce and cheese, if that’s your thing) into one tray, with your choice of protein — carnitas, adobada, carne asada, grilled fish and crispy chicken among them. The $49.99 party platter also comes with rice, beans, chips and salsa. For comparison, that number of tacos, at $2.25 each, would total $45 without accompaniments.

The menu also offers tortas, taquitos, quesadillas and rice bowls, but the burritos are a big draw. The California burrito comes standard with carne asada, pico de gallo, cheese and fries. Breakfast versions include the Seahawks burrito with bacon, eggs, cheese and potatoes.

On Tuesdays, street tacos are just $1.25 a piece.

We don't need it. We need a good reasonably priced fish and seafood joint, some Indian and an Ethiopian joint. Make it happen Grit City

I'm not checking it out. Over $20 for a burrito with everything you expect on it? Nope.
