This weekend kicks off the free annual Tacoma Studio Tour , where more than 100 local artists are opening up their studios to the public, giving hands-on demonstrations and an opportunity to see the artistic process up close.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, more than 65 studios around the city will be open for you to explore. The featured artists use a variety of media, from paint to sculpture, drawing, glass, weaving, ceramics, photography, poetry and more.

It’s all part of Tacoma Arts Month , which has a variety of arts events happening all of October.

You can find an interactive map of the studio tour’s featured artists online , complete with background information about the artists and descriptions and photos of their work. Most studios are in Tacoma’s north end or downtown.

Before you go, you can download and print out a Studio Tour Passport or pick up a copy at one of the artist studios. After you visit at least seven studios and collect stamps at each one, you can send a photo of your passport to the Tacoma Arts Commission to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win art created by featured artists on the tour. You can mail your passport to 747 Market Ave. Room 400, Tacoma 98402 or email a photo to tacomaarts@cityoftacoma.org .
