FRIDAY’S RESULTS (OCT. 18)
LINCOLN 41, BELLARMINE PREP 10
3rd and Long, 4th and forever, you name it — QB Sione Kaho is inevitable.
When Lincoln drives stall, the 6-3 sophomore saves the day. He was Friday night’s field general, the guide for 38- and 61-yard touchdown passes on opening drives on a rainy senior night at Lincoln Bowl.
No matter the situation, regardless of down and distance, Kaho was ultra-comfortable with a tight spiral in all directions. He’s looking sharper by the week, but is this the best version of the blossoming signal caller the South Sound has seen?
“Yes, sir,” Kaho told The News Tribune. “(I’m) just working, getting the guys right, and making sure we’re on the same (page), same chemistry.”

Kaho threw three first-half touchdowns (one interception), Lincoln’s defense denied any glimpse of an opposing run game, and the Abes dominated Bellarmine Prep in runaway fashion, 41-10, for their fourth straight victory in 3A PSL play.
“I think (Sione’s) starting to feel more comfortable,” Matsumoto said. “Our coaches have done a great job with him, our OC [Shalls Jacome] has done a great job with him. He’s coming along.
“What I love about him... He doesn’t care if he throws 100 times or hands off to Jadeon (Scranton) 100 times. He just wants to win, and he wants to be great.”
Lincoln’s offense hummed from the opening drive. On 3rd and 9, Kaho delivered quickly to WR Messiah Ellick, who cut inside for an open crease and raced 38 yards for the game’s first touchdown.
On a similarly-designed screen, Abes WR Kanoa Teplasy scored next on a 61-yard scamper down the right sideline — Kaho’s second touchdown pass of the first quarter.
“Kanoa’s my number-one guy,” Kaho said.
Teplasy’s stellar night continued when the two-way WR/DB intercepted Lions QB Birk Johnston in the second quarter and flashed shifty moves after the catch to move the sticks in the second half.
“I still think (Kanoa’s) the best route runner in Washington,” Matsumoto said. “He makes great, incredible catches. He’s a small guy, but colleges should get on him.”
Abes RB Jadeon Scranton bullied his way over the goal line for a one-yard score in the second quarter, and Kaho threw his third touchdown of the half to WR Tyrone Jones, an impressive rollout and throw to put Lincoln ahead by 20.
Touchdowns by RB Maurice Gosby (19-yard run) and DB Ka’isaiah Wilson (40-yard interception return) in the second half punctuated a rainy rout. Sophomore DB Eonytus Kitiona added a first-quarter interception.
“Our DC (Ben King) played and coached at Bellarmine,” Matsumoto said. “He was fired up for this game, and he got the team ready.”
Lincoln (5-2) remains undefeated in league play and would complete an unblemished run through the 3A PSL Narrows with a win at Central Kitsap (3-4) next weekend.
“Just keep preparing,” Kaho said. “Over-preparing, whether we need it or not.”
GRAHAM-KAPOWSIN 34, OLYMPIA 0
The Bears were playing for their seniors, including their injured quarterback. They were playing to earn the program’s first-ever victory over South Puget Sound League power Graham-Kapowsin.
But the Eagles had alternate plans.
Graham-Kapowsin shut down the Olympia offense on Friday night at Ingersoll Stadium, built a 20-point halftime advantage and continued its roll through the SPSL South schedule with an eventual 34-0 victory.
“I’m proud of our kids because we were able to come in here and win a football game in a way we haven’t done, really, in two years,” Graham-Kapowsin coach Jeff Logan said. “We ran the football. We played extremely well on defense. I was proud of our O-line, I was proud of our running backs getting downhill and proving we could win a football game when it gets a little nasty.”
After beginning the season with two losses, the Eagles (5-2 overall, 4-0 SPSL) extended their winning streak to five games and now hold a two-game advantage in the division over the Bears (5-2, 2-2), who fell for the second straight game.
Earlier in the week, Olympia found out that senior quarterback Cameron Downing’s injury-plagued career was continuing into Week 7. On senior night, Downing wasn’t even in uniform for the Bears as he nursed a knee injury that required an MRI this week.
Downing tried to go a week earlier but made it through just one quarter on the road against Spanaway Lake as Olympia lost for the first time this season. His sophomore brother, Tucker, who took over for him a week ago, got the start at Ingersoll Stadium on Friday against streaking Graham-Kapowsin.
In the wind and rain, the younger Downing managed to complete just seven of 13 passes in the first half for 24 yards. Olympia added 20 yards on the ground as Graham-Kapowsin held the Bears to 44 yards of total offense in six first-half possessions.
Meanwhile, the Eagles turned an early Downing interception into a one-play drive for a lead they’d never relinquish. Quinncey Ratteray batted Downing’s second pass of the game to himself and returned it 37 yards to the Olympia 1-yard line.
From there, Caleb Braithwaite strolled into the end zone for a 7-0 lead just 1 minute, 21 seconds into the contest. Not to be left out, Graham-Kapowsin’s highly-touted freshman quarterback AJ Tuavaiave got to work, as well.
Tuiavaiave hit Kase Betz over the middle for a 32-yard touchdown with 3:32 to go in the first quarter, extending the lead to 14-0. Two possessions later, Tuivaiave paid off a nine-play, 62-yard drive with a 1-yard plunge of his own on fourth-and-goal and the Eagles took a 20-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
Tuivaiave completed six of nine passes for 98 yards and the TD over the first 24 minutes. Staked to a comfortable lead, the Eagles took to the ground in the second half, running the ball and the clock. The Eagles threw the ball just three times in the second half and but for a fumble when driving in the early fourth quarter were on pace to effect a running clock.
“We really worked on it this week,” Eagles running back Blake Pearson said. “We went out and executed. Every week, do our job and execute.”
Pearson had 75 yards rushing on 16 carries for Graham-Kapowsin.
“When the weather is like this, you know, sometimes you can’t pass the ball,” Pearson said. “So change the script of the game and run all night.”
THURSDAY’S RESULTS (OCT. 17)
FRANKLIN PIERCE 58, FIFE 16
Welcome to the 200-yard club, Bryson Allen.
Franklin Pierce’s leading rusher exploded for 225 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries, and the Cardinals ran wild for 522 total ground yards in another rivalry blowout at Fife, 58-16.
Allen rightfully stole the show with 20.5 yards per carry despite an impressive, all-around team effort. Six Cardinals rushers logged at least 50 yards; five of them scored touchdowns.
Franklin Pierce’s team rushing totals? 37 carries for 522 yards and eight touchdowns, including a 42-yard rushing score by dual-threat QB Jeremiah Orcutt on a first-half keeper. The sophomore signal caller threw just one pass throughout the run fest, a 26-yard completion to Jimmy Amadeo.
Allen’s first career 200-yard performance is already his sixth 100-yard game this season. His 1,031 rushing yards in 2024 rank third statewide.
Franklin Pierce’s Ja’mire Ford added an 81-yard touchdown run on his only carry.
Fife was Franklin Pierce’s (7-0) toughest remaining test, placing them in cruise control to complete an undefeated regular season. The 2A SPSL title can be secured next week as playoffs loom.
