    1 dead in fatal hit-and-run of pedestrian in Oshkosh, suspect in custody

    OSHKOSH – A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash of a pedestrian early Saturday morning has been taken into custody.

    Oshkosh Police Department said Saturday afternoon a 21-year-old Oshkosh man, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested and was being held at Winnebago County Jail. The crash happened at New York Avenue and Goss Court.

    Police said while a suspect is in custody, anyone with additional camera footage or information about the incident should contact the department at 920-236-5700 or report tips anonymously by calling Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at 920-231-8477 or by using the P3 app. Specifically, police encourage anyone who lives in the area of the crash to check security cameras for any activity between midnight and 3 a.m. Oct. 5.

    The hit-and-run fatality was reported shortly before 3 a.m. Oct. 5 at New York Avenue and Goss Court. Police said the scene involved a pedestrian who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle lying in the roadway with the striking vehicle leaving the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

    The pedestrian was administered lifesaving measures by responding officers and paramedics but was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    The pedestrian’s identity has not been released and no further details were immediately available Sunday morning.
