A free seminar for boaters is being offered by America's Boating Club Knoxville , covering safe docking procedures, understanding controls, confined space maneuvering and other slow-speed situations.

It will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church , 131 W. Gettysburg Ave., Oak Ridge.

For new and even experienced boaters, safely docking is typically the most challenging part, according to a news release.

Using diagrams and audio/video clips, this seminar will explain and illustrate proven techniques. It covers complications like wind and current, the release said.

There will be time to ask trained and experienced instructors questions about docking power or sailboats.

One-on-one, on-water assistance on your boat is available through the organization's “Jump-Start” program.

"Ninety minutes of your time is less costly than hull repair costs and possible personal injury," said John C. Farmer, administrative officer of America's Boating Club Knoxville.
