    What books have been banned or challenged in Oklahoma? It's complicated.

    According to PEN American's Index of School Book Bans , these books have been banned or have been proposed to be banned over the years at various Oklahoma public schools.

    In addition, a second list shows the books "investigated" by then-Attorney General John O'Connor. O'Connor's investigation, however, was short, and he later said he had decided it was an issue for parents and local school boards.

    Books under investigation by Oklahoma's AG in 2022

    In February 2022, Oklahoma Attorney General John O’Connor released a list of 54 books his office would evaluate to determine whether they violated the state's obscenity law after he received comments from concerned parents.

    Days later, he appeared to walk back the promise of an investigation.

    The list included:
