    New season of Esther Women’s luncheon series set to begin at two St. Luke's locations

    A popular luncheon series is set to begin in September, with featured guest speakers including a best-selling author and Harvard professor, an internationally known Christian leader from Uganda and a former Women of Faith singer and speaker.

    Founded by Jane Jayroe Gamble, the 21st season of Esther Women series is expanding. Gamble said Esther Women will available in Edmond at the St. Luke’s Methodist Church Edmond satellite at 900 Sooner Road, as well as St. Luke’s-Downtown, 222 NW 15. The same program will be offered on different days from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    The cost for the season is $275. The first Wednesday of every month is the usual meeting day at St Luke’s-Downtown and it will be on the first Thursday of the month in Edmond. A recorded version of the guest speakers' presentations will be offered at the Edmond satellite. The Rev. Linda Harker will be the host at the Edmond location. Harker joined St Luke’s after retiring as senior pastor at McFarlin United Methodist Church in Norman.

    The nine speakers that will be featured this season include :

    September : Bob Johnson will share the biblical story of Queen Esther and how her story is relevant today. An attorney, Johnson is the founding chairman of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. In July 1995, he was appointed by former Oklahoma City Mayor Ron Norick as chairman of the 350-member Memorial Task Force, and in 1998, he was appointed by then-President Bill Clinton as chairman of the Oklahoma City National Memorial Trust and reappointed to that position by then-President George W. Bush. Kyle Dillingham will provide music.

    October : U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Davis, who grew up in Edmond, was critically injured while serving in Afghanistan. Following 28 life-saving surgeries, he now lives life as a triple amputee with faith and perseverance.

    November : Shelia Walsh, from Scotland, is well-known in America for her career as an author, Bible teacher, and television host. She’s a two-time Grammy-nominated recording artist and also hosts shows on the TBN television network.

    December : The “Voices of Lee” from Tennessee will be featured. The 15-member ensemble began performing in 1994 and have performed around the world.

    January : The Rev. Jessica Moffett, of Tulsa, is a United Methodist pastor, author, public speaker, mediator and spiritual director. Moffett will speak on “The Power of Humor.”

    February : Known for her bravery in the face of evil, Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe from Uganda has helped transform the lives of women and children. She was recognized as a CNN hero in 2007 and was one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2014.

    March : Veronica Karaman played in this year’s U.S. Senior Women’s U.S. Open. She is a coach, speaker, educator, golf professional and author of eight books.

    April : Arthur C Brooks is a Harvard professor, social scientist and best-selling author who specializes in using the highest levels of science and philosophy to provide people with actionable strategies to live their best lives. Brooks has been selected as one of Fortune Magazine’s “50 World’s Greatest Leaders.” His most recent bestseller “Build the Life You Want” was co-authored with Oprah Winfrey.

    May : The focus will be on God's promise to be with his people “for all generations.” Oklahoma City women will talk about teaching Christian values within their own families. Featured guests will include Mo Anderson, Nancy Ellis and Marsha Long, who will appear with their daughter or granddaughter to talk about their their generations of faith.

    In addition to limited in-person attendance opportunities, women are invited to join the Esther Women online community at no cost. That group and those on the Esther Women waiting list will be invited to share some special events this year. Gamble said special thanks go out to Richard and Mo Anderson for providing a sponsorship for Esther Women.
