Love's Travel Stops has begun adding new electric vehicle charging stations at dozens of stores across the country, including eight planned for Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma City-based company already has six EV charging stations in Oklahoma: Two near the Texas border, one on the interstate between OKC and Tulsa, and stations near Chickasha, McAlester and Muskogee.

Work will begin on the new Oklahoma charging stations in 2025, the company said. According to a map of planned charging stations , the eight new locations will mostly be along Interstates 40 and 35.

"Love’s is honored to play a critical role in actively shaping and building out the fast-charging electric vehicle network across the nation," said Shane Wharton, Love’s president. "Expanding the EV charging network is not new to us as we first started in the EV space in 2017 and have continued to grow the network. We now offer more than 100 chargers at 28 stores in 11 states. These future EV investments reinforce our commitment to meeting customers’ needs regardless of fuel type."

Each location will have four charging points with Level 3 DC fast chargers.

The charger installation has been subsidized by state and federal grants to build out the nation's electric vehicle infrastructure. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program allocates federal funding state-by-state for EV charging equipment installation.

It includes $5 billion allocated over five years to create a national network of 500,000 EV chargers. Love's, through its Trillium Energy Solutions brand, is in the top three companies to be awarded NEVI grant funds.

Groundbreaking on four NEVI-funded charging stations in Pennsylvania and four in Kentucky will start this year. In 2025, construction is expected to start on EV charging stations in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

The company also said that newly built Love's Travel Stops will have space for future EV charger installation.
