Fall is a favorite time for many Oklahoma families to take advantage of the mild weather and take time to enjoy the outdoors.

If you're looking for a day or overnight trip where you can enjoy the outdoors, autumn weather and maybe even some colorful fall foliage, one of Oklahoma's state parks is a great option.

We made a list of all the state parks within a 2 hour drive of downtown Oklahoma City. We even included the driving distance for you, so you don't have to do the math yourself.

Lake Thunderbird State Park - 35 minutes

Just a 35 minute drive from the heart of OKC, Lake Thunderbird State Park is a quick escape from everyday life.

Visitors can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and nature trails. There are tent and RV campgrounds available to reserve online.

Roman Nose State Park - 1 hour 14 minutes

One of the seven original Oklahoma state parks, Roman Nose State Park is just over an hour northwest of Oklahoma City.

There's plenty to do for the whole family, including an 18-hole golf course, hiking trails, canoeing, paddle boats, mountain biking and horseback rides.

Fort Cobb State Park - 1 hour 17 minutes

In southwest Oklahoma is Fort Cobb State Park , just north of the town by the same name, in honor of a former U.S. Army frontier post founded in the area in 1859, when the state was still Indian Territory.

Activities include a golf course, boating, fishing, kayaking, hiking, biking and wildlife watching.

Foss State Park - 1 hour 30 minutes

This western Oklahoma gem is found on Foss Lake, a picturesque place to cool off with a swim during the summer and catch a good sunset.

But Foss Lake State Park is still a great destination in the fall, with opportunities like hiking, biking, disc golf, camping, fishing, boating and horseback riding on the multi-purpose trail — although horse rental is not available so you'll have to bring your own equestrian friend.

Lake Eufaula State Park - 1 hour 43 minutes

Lake Eufaula State Park is located just south of I-40 near Checotah, Oklahoma. The park surrounds the beautiful Eufaula Lake, where Carrie Underwood fondly recalls "catching crappie fish" in her song "I Ain't in Checotah Anymore."

But the park isn't for catching fish — see a variety of wildlife and foliage on one of the park's trails, and learn about the local animal and plant species at the Deep Fork Nature Center. There's also an 18-hole disc golf course and 18-hole regular golf course.

Great Plains State Park - 1 hour 55 minutes

Nestled in the foothills of the Wichita Mountains, Great Plains State Park has something for everyone. Enjoy water activities at Tom Steed Lake, or watch for wildlife throughout the park.

Enjoy hiking or biking on the park's trails, rock climbing in granite boulder fields, or explore the ruins of an 120-year-old mine. To stay overnight, make a reservation at one of the parks RV or tent campgrounds.

Gloss Mountain State Park - 1 hour 57 minutes

Gloss Mountain State Park is home to the Gloss Mountains, and the high Selenite content that mimics a shiny glass exterior makes the area a unique landmark in Oklahoma.

The mainstay at this park is the hike to the top of Cathedral Mountain. There is no lodging within the state park, but facilities include a restroom, pavilions, picnic areas, grills and public water supply.
