OU football vs Maine: TV channel, betting line, scouting report for Week 9 game

NORMAN — Riding a three-game losing streak — just its second such streak in the last 26 seasons — OU figures to get a bit of a respite this weekend.

The Sooners (4-4, 1-4 SEC) will take on FCS foe Maine at 1:30 p.m. at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

The November FCS opponent is a staple of many SEC schedules, but this will be OU’s first such contest.

In the post-World War II era, the Sooners have played just eight games against FCS/I-AA teams — all in their first or second game of the season.

Here’s a look at what you need to know about Saturday’s game:

    Scouting Maine

    • Record: 4-4 (2-3 CAA)
    • Best player: Wide receiver Montigo Moss is the Black Bears ’ leading receiver with 42 catches for 441 yards and three touchdowns. In Saturday’s loss to Rhode Island, Moss had nine catches for 80 yards. Moss is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss.
    • The case for Maine : It’s hard to make a legitimate case for the Black Bears but after going 2-9 each of the last two seasons, Maine has made significant progress in their third season under Jordan Stevens. The Black Bears have a pair of wins against FCS top-25 teams this season, including a 35-7 win over then-No. 5 Villanova on Oct. 19. With the Sooners’ offense struggling and the defense showing some cracks, if Maine can get some breaks and stay in the game late, anything is possible. Also, only six FCS programs have beaten SEC teams — Maine being one of them. The Black Bears beat Mississippi State, 9-7, in 2004.
    • The case for OU: Not only has OU not been beaten by an FCS opponent, none of the games have even been close. The Sooners have won by an average score of 60.25-4.5. OU’s offensive line, regardless of whether or not Jacob Sexton or Jake Taylor are available, should be able to handle the Maine defensive front and if the Sooners can block, plenty can fall in place with the offense.
