An unidentified female pedestrian was hit and killed by a Lacey driver on Interstate 5 Monday night, according to Washington State Patrol.

About 10:35 p.m., the 32-year-old Lacey driver and her juvenile passenger were headed south on the freeway in Pierce County.

Troopers say that just north of the main gate to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the driver crashed into the woman who was “standing in lane five.” She died at the scene.

The Lacey driver, who remained at the scene, was not injured. Her passenger also wasn’t hurt, according to State Patrol.

“The pedestrian was in the left lanes when the collision occurred,” Trooper John Dattilo said in a social media post. “The driver of the vehicle stopped and is fully cooperating with the investigation, and is not impaired.”

The road was blocked for nearly three hours following the crash, according to State Patrol.
