Vidor man that allegedly knocked officer to ground while resisting search indicted this week

A 24-year-old Vidor man that allegedly knocked a police officer to the ground while resisting arrest was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on a charge of assault of a peace officer.

The crime is a second degree felony.

On July 15, Beaumont Police Department officers were called to the 2600 block of Laurel Avenue in Beaumont in reference to a disturbance. As police investigated, Danny R. Johnson Jr. reportedly tried to further the disturbance and was detained for the safety of all of the individuals according to the probable cause affidavit.

A check was conducted and officers found that Johnson had outstanding warrants out of Orange County. He was arrested and removed from the patrol unit and a “search incident to arrest” for conducted.

During that time Johnson reportedly kept turning in various ways to keep the officer from performing the search.

At one point Johnson violently spun to his right and used his elbow to hit the officer in the chest, the document read. The officer was knocked to the ground and suffered pain to his left knee and back.

Johnson was taken to the ground by officers and returned to the patrol unit before being brought to Baptist Hospital for jail clearance.

Once cleared he was taken to the county jail on the charge.
