Garbage collection rate increase for county residents

In a few weeks, Lafayette County residents living outside of the city limits will see an $8 hike on their trash collection bill.

The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors recently approved raising the fee from $12 a month to $20 a month.

The Board has the authority to set the monthly fees for the Solid Waste Department.

The new rate will take effect on Oct. 1.

According to county officials, the county has not increased solid waste collection rates since 2014 when it went from $10 to $12. Before 2014, the rate had not increased since 2000 when it went from $9 to $10.

Oxford residents pay $22 a month.
