Bees n’ Brews shoreline pollinator event at Rendezvous

Join the Cass County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) team in learning about shoreline plant species native to Minnesota to take home to grow along your shoreline at Bees ‘N Brews, May 5, 1-3 p.m. at “Rendezvous For a Cause,” Rendezvous Brewing, First Street. Hackensack.

The plants not only mitigate erosion and capture nutrients but also foster habitats for pollinators and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the shoreline. SWCD will provide native seeds to plant at home to start your own pollinator habitat and contribute to the ecosystem.

As part of the event, Rendezvous Brewing will offer their “Sunny Dream” beer brewed with local honey from Hackensack and Longville. Some of the bees pollinate the local hops Rendezvous Brewing used this past fall. The honey is conisdered a wildflower honey, and most bees obtain the nectar from local basswood trees.

Sunny Dream has a hint of citrus that provides a crisp, light beer with its honey taste on the back end of a sip: a beer perfect for spring.

Twenty percent of beer sales at this Rendezvous for a Cause event will go the the Association of Cass County Lakes to offset the cost of their early summer shoreline bus tour. The tour aims to educate local landowners on how to enhance shorelines using native, deep-rooted plants that can provide stabilization and a habitat for pollinators.
