    Six WHA baseball players selected all-conference

    Six Walker-Hackensack-Akeley baseball players were selected to the Northland Conference all-conference teams.

    The Wolves tied with Blackduck and Nevis for the conference crown at 8-1. During the regular season, WHA beat Blackduck 10-7 but lost 6-5 Nevis, who lost to Blackduck 10-3.

    During a recent awards get-together, Coach Pat Richter handed out all-conference plaques to Wyatt Hegg, Gavin Swanson, Brad Hasse and Cole Rutten. Swanson and Hasse also made the Section 5A All-Section Team.

    It was the third straight year that Hegg was selected all-conference. Over his high school career, he has batted 0.356.

    Caleb Crow and Karch Frazier each made the honorable mention team, while Richter was named the Coach of the Year.

    Hasse had the highest batting average at 0.493, led with 36 hits and was the Most Outstanding Pitcher with 68 strikeouts.

    Swanson led with 28 runs scored and had the Highest On-Base Percentage at 0.542.

    Rutten was the Most Outstanding Pitcher with a 1.87 ERA.

    In team awards, Easton Brovold received the Prospect of the Year Award, Levi Meschke the Rookie of the Year, Skyler Westphal the Most Improved Fielder, TJ Orton the Most Improved Pitcher, Frazier and Swanson the Most Home Runs with two each, Hasse the Utility Player of the Year, Crow the Best Fielder and Extra Effort Award, and Hegg the Best Teammate.

    Receiving letters or pins were the award winners along with Nick Harding and Gozi Neeland.
