Heartland Symphony Orchestra fall concerts are Oct. 5, 6

The Heartland Symphony Orchestra (HSO) will be opening its 48th season #OnlyInMN with their Fall Concert Series #Beethoven.

HSO will perform the Minnesota premiere of Dr. Dominic Dousa’s New Era Overture. Dr. Dousa has been a member of the faculty at the University of Texas at El Paso Department of Music since 2004.

Dr. Stephen Carlson, professor of piano at Bemidji State University, will be featured in a performance of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto. Dr. Carlson made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2005. He has appeared with the Bemidji and Bismarck-Mandan Symphonies, as well as the Chamber Orchestras of Gustavus Adolphus and Mississippi Valley. In 2017, he performed live on Minnesota Public Radio.

In memory of Mary Anne Bennett, and to thank her for her 21 years of service to HSO, the orchestra will also perform “Nimrod” from Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

HSO’s annual collaboration with St. Francis Music Center’s orchestra will be in Little Falls at Charles D. Martin Auditorium in Little Falls High School Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. This cycle will also include a side-by-side performance with members of Brainerd High School’s Sinfonia Orchestra in Brainerd at Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts at Brainerd High School Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m. In Brainerd, there will be a Conductor Chat prior to the concert at 1:45. Little Falls will not be holding a Conductor Chat for this fall cycle.
