HCLL features Alaska snowmobile trip at Oct. 8 meeting

PARK RAPIDS — The Headwaters Center for Lifelong Learning presents Rob Hallstrom and “Three Old Guys Snowmobile to Alaska” Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Event Room, 1104 Park Avenue South.

On March 6, 2023, 66-year-old Rob Hallstrom of Park Rapids, 72-year-old Paul Dick of Grand Rapids and 70-year-old Rex Hibbert of Soda Springs, Idaho, dubbed themselves the “3 Old Guys” and departed on the adventure of a lifetime — a trek from Minnesota to Alaska on snowmobile.

After 38 days and 5,000 miles, these guys definitely got their adventure. But they also proved to themselves, and their 38,000 Facebook followers, that with a little grit (and a lot of support) even the most challenging adventures can be achieved.

The “3 Old Guys” took extreme riding to the next level, overcoming broken-up ice and overflow creeks, deep, fresh powder (for miles), rock and gravel (for miles), long-deserted, overgrown trapping routes, not one, but two snowmobile fires, many days of living solely on jerky and protein bars, and much more. They also encountered deep kindness and generosity from local communities, some of the most beautiful land in the world and support from across the globe.

This truly was the adventure of a lifetime, and yet many continue to ask if the “3 Old Guys” will tackle another journey. The answer is - maybe.

Rob will also remind his audience not to forget, “You don’t stop having fun when you get old, you get old when you stop having fun.”
