Four people were injured, including one seriously, when a vehicle struck them and a tent Sept. 28 at the annual Hackensack Chainsaw Carving Event.

Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that at 3:37 p.m. his office received reports of a vehicle striking event-goers.

The investigation indicated that an 80-year-old man was attempting to park a 2021 Honda Pilot and exited the vehicle when the vehicle continued moving away from the parking spot, with the male attempting to gain access back into the vehicle to place it into park. The vehicle continued into a tent area striking four adults participating at the event.

Three adults were treated on scene for minor injuries and transported via private vehicles to area hospitals for further evaluation. One adult was transported from the scene via North Memorial Air Care to a Duluth hospital for serious injury.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation and alcohol is not a factor in the incident.

Assisting at the scene was the Hackensack Fire and Rescue, North Memorial Ambulance and Air Care and the Walker Police Department.
