Stacey guilty of sex crimes Former Hubbard County Commissioner and Nevis School bus driver Daniel Stacey was convicted on two felony counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 16, soliciting a minor to engage in sexual conduct and distributing material that relates/describes sexual conduct to a child. Stacey pleaded guilty to two separate court cases on June 14, with the prosecutor agreeing to drop the remaining charges. He was originally charged with 11 felony counts. Sentencing is set for Sept. 13.

An Akeley man was shot in the leg after an altercation early Friday morning. Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes said his office received a call at 12:16 a.m. from an individual claiming to have been assaulted at his residence in rural Akeley. Federal Dam crash takes life of local man
A 75-year-old Federal Dam man is dead as a result of a one-vehicle crash the morning of July 31. Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that at 10:38 a.m. the sheriff’s office received a report of a motor vehicle crash on County Road 73 in Gould Township in rural Federal Dam. Deputies and responders arrived and learned that a 2000 GMC Denali had left the roadway, striking a tree. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was extricated and lifesaving efforts were performed on scene and at a nearby landing zone. The victim, Randall Linderholm was pronounced deceased. Assisting at the scene was the Federal Dam Fire Department, North Memorial Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care.

The Lions Den
Last week was one of tragedies and triumphs. After a short battle against an aggressive form of cancer, our friend and fellow Lion, Sherry Kiisa passed away. Sherry, along with her husband Karl, had been a longtime, very active Lion member who had served in many capacities. At the time of her death, she was our Lions’ secretary as well as our friend.
