An elderly woman is dead following a car fire on Pleasure Island Thursday.

First responders were called to a possible car fire at approximately 2:10 p.m. Thursday in the vehicle in the 2700 block of North Levee Road.

Port Arthur Fire Department arrived to find a vehicle with heavy fire damage and a deceased elderly female inside the vehicle.

Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso said two witnesses told police the driver lost control of the vehicle. Authorities are unsure what contributed to the incident.

    Foul play is not suspected.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Port Arthur Fire Department dispatched two engines, a chief’s car and arson/fire investigators to investigate the fire, according to Interim Deputy Fire Chief Antonio Mitchell.

No further details were available as of Thursday afternoon.
