A 21-year-old Port Arthur man who reportedly fired a gun multiple times into an apartment then was shot with a crossbow by a man protecting himself and family was indicted this week on multiple charges.

The incident occurred just before noon June 17 at 901 Main Ave. Port Arthur Police responded to a call of shots fired and met with a man who said that Davonte Reynolds made threats to shoot him while displaying a handgun with an extended magazine, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The apartment resident said since he is a felon and can’t possess a firearm to protect himself he armed himself with a crossbow.

He opened his door and reportedly saw Reynolds coming up the stairs pointing a handgun at him so he fired the crossbow and hit the suspect in the chest, the document read.

Reynolds allegedly began shooting, broke out a window and stuck the gun inside and “began firing the gun blindly into the bedroom of the apartment.”

Inside the bedroom was the 35-year-old apartment resident, a 32-year-old female and a 1-week-one baby.

    Reynolds reportedly fled the scene.

Officers were called to Beverly apartments in Groves where they found Reynolds with the crossbow in his upper chest. He was brought to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment.

Reynolds was arrested June 17 with bond set at $25,000 for each of the three charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and bonded out the next day, according to information from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
