    Fox Valley events: Close out summer with roller derby, food trucks and Boogie and the Yo-yoz

    APPLETON - For those looking to get out and about in the Fox Valley communities, options include a day of Fox Cities Roller Derby games, an opportunity to help ICE ALS with an Aug. 25 fundraiser and a concert with the locally renown band Boogie and the Yo-yoz.

    There's also a food truck event at Poplar Hall and a beer garden event at Windmill Plaza.

    Here's what to know about these upcoming events:

    Roller Derby event to feature five games, vendor village

    Fox Cities Roller Derby will host a full day of derby action on Aug. 24 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center to close the league’s 17th season.

    Games will feature the 920 Honeys and the All Stars, playing at 10 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. Doors open at 9 a.m.

    In addition to five roller derby games, a vendor village will be open.

    Advanced tickets are $15 for ages 12 and older and $18 at the door. Children ages 11 and younger are free.

    Fox Cities Roller Derby will host a boot camp in September. Two weeks of practice will kick off Sept. 21 with a pizza party at Appleton Beer Factory. It is open to anyone and experience is not required.

    ICE ALS fundraiser is set for Aug. 25

    A fundraising event called ICE ALS will be held 1 to 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at Community First Champion Center, 5000 W. Champion Dr., Appleton. Funds raised will go toward ALS research.

    There will be free ice skating for kids, search and rescue police dogs, fire truck, military vehicle, race car, sponsor tables, dunk tank, face painting, inflatables, obstacle course and more.

    Live music by Pearl Street from 1 to 4 p.m. and Grand Union 4 to 7 p.m.

    Admission is a $20 donation per vehicle. Purchase at eventbrite.com . Donations welcome.

    Boogie and the Yo-yoz concert is Aug. 28 in Neenah

    An end-of-summer concert with Boogie and the Yo-yoz is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 28. The street dance will be held on the 100 block of West Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Neenah.

    Concert goers should bring lawn chairs. There is free parking in the Church Street ramp, the lot at Church and Doty street and on the street.

    There is no charge to attend, but donations are accepted.

    Food trucks, live music at Poplar Hall

    The Poplar Hall Food Truck Fest will hold its last event on Aug 28. The fest will be 4 to 8 p.m. at 141 Riverheath Way, Appleton.

    There will be a diverse selection of food trucks and live music performances.

    Admission is free and open to the public.

    Beer garden event to be held at Windmill Plaza

    Pints On The Plaza, a beer garden, will be held 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Windmill Plaza, 130 W. Main St., Little Chute.

    The events will feature craft beer, hard seltzer, live music by Leo G. Music, food and dessert trucks, outdoor family games and activities.
