Mukwonago 20, Appleton North 10
APPLETON - Mukwonago held the Lightning scoreless in the fourth quarter and added a late touchdown on a reverse in the win at Paul Engen Field.
North (0-1) pulled to within 13-10 with 2:44 left in the third quarter on a 34-yard field goal from Mason Skorstad. That carried into the fourth quarter until Nick Martin’s 9-yard touchdown off a reverse put the game out of reach for Mukwonago (1-0) with 5:05 left in regulation.
The Lightning was plagued most of the game with procedure and personal foul penalties as well as dropped passes that short-circuited potential drives.
“I’m frustrated with some of those mental mistakes,” North coach Rob Salm said. “Whether it’s losing your composure or not having enough guys at the line of scrimmage, those procedural things that you practice so hard and make sure everybody is on the same page. Then you get to the bright lights and some kids maybe aren’t as organized as they need to be. We need to fix all that stuff.”
Charlie Olson had a 43-yard touchdown on a quarterback sneak in the second quarter for Appleton North.
Mason Radobicky had a 3-yard touchdown run for Mukwonago, which also got an 11-yard touchdown catch from Luka Tess.
